This patch was developed in the summer of 1985 at Plattsburgh AFB based on the proposed transfer of the FB-111As to the Tactical Air Forces. PACAF requested an all-weather penetrator and several locations were considered for the a/c.

This patch was developed in 1990 when it was announced that the aircraft would be transferred to TAC as F-111Gs. TAC crews were put into the FB-111 aircrew pipeline in 1987.
